Ah, the impending new year. Resolutions you know you won’t keep, hope that won’t be fulfilled, at least three more months of arctic temperatures. Isn’t it glorious? But my favorite part of the new year is the last 2 weeks of the old year, and here’s why. Have you ever noticed how very much people enjoy having the opportunity to look at someone they see once a week or more and say to them, “See you next year!” A. LOT. From this point forward, I want you to start counting how many times someone says this to you before January 1, 2010. And I guarantee you when they say it they will have the smug, self-satisfied look of someone who thinks he has just told a truly clever joke. I know this face well, because I’m a natural redhead with an O and an apostrophe in my last name, and I see this look every time a random dude unleashes his inner comic genius by asking me, “You couldn’t be Irish, could you, ahaha, chuckle, chuckle, wink wink nudge nudge.” Wink wink nudge nudge indeed.
See you next year!
And the so countdown begins…
